OJARS — When Art Becomes a Tablecloth

Inspiration can be found all around us — in nature, in light, in colours, in textures. At any place, at any time of day.

But this time, our source of inspiration — and an experiment at the same time — was art.

While visiting the exhibition of Ojārs Ābols at the Latvian National Museum of Art, one of the artist’s paintings caught my attention. Its colour combinations, mood and rhythm became the starting point for a new ETMO tablecloth.

And so OJARS was born — a tablecloth that is not simply inspired by a painting, but is our attempt to translate the feeling of an artwork into another language: woven texture, colour and pattern.

It was an experiment — exploring how the language of painting could be transferred to the loom. How colour can become thread, a line can become a pattern, and the mood of a painting can become a textile that finds its place in everyday life.

OJARS is our dialogue with art — a meeting point between painting and weaving, between art and everyday life.
